Re: Black Stork Nest Cam 2
On the 24th (Wednesday) the LK homepage said: "The first hatched black stork chicks are four weeks old and have developed nicely. The Eagle Club men plan to ring them after the holidays."
I am not sure to which holiday they are referring -- Midsummer's Eve?

Tomorrow nearly at noon we plan to visit nest and make necessary works there.
That's 4:00 Tuesday morning at my house! If they fix the camera and solar cells before they ring the storklets, I hope someone can snap pictures or make videos.

Re: Black Stork Nest Cam 2
Today around noon I was watching the storklets doing a lot of wing flapping. Suddenly the biggest one took off
It returned very quickly and it was funny to see the reaction of the others - they thought it was Mom They started to beg for food like crazy!!!
A while a go I looked at the cam again - only 3 storklets there now
I already thought that the 4th is coming back when the begging sound began again but it was Mom (or Dad) who came for a very quick visit with some food.
How does this all happen?? Will the storklets leave one by one and then fend for themselves or will they return to the nest for a while?? Will the parents feed those who have left the nest??

I guess they will return to the nest for a while. And until the storklets know how to fish the adults will feed them (but maybe not outside the nest, though).

Re: Black Stork Nest Cam 2
If I remember correctly from past years, they start out taking short flights and return to the nest for food and to spend the night.
It was getting pretty crowded with all four of them, especially when the adult came in to feed them. The one out flying is probably really enjoying not being squeezed between its siblings.

Re: Black Stork Nest Cam 2
Looks like it is now down to two! When I checked in this morning (afternoon for the storks), it appeared that one was trying to get up the courage to give flying a try. He/she must have succeeded.
There were only three in nest when I checked during their night, so the first to fledge did not come home to sleep.

Re: Black Stork Nest Cam 2
This is my all-time favorite video of a stork making its first flight. It takes a little while for the action to begin, but keep your eye on the treetops in the distance after it takes off--I laugh every time watching the flyer and the one left in the nest.
