There are so many different scenes to choose from and I only use very few of them. "Scenery" for most pics of animals and such (when much zoom is needed) taken at full daylight and "Night Scenery" for pics taken at dusk/dawn. Macro mode for macro pics of course. And "intelligent mode" for all kinds of pics with little zoom such as landscape pics.
Burst shooting is great to get a pic of a certain moment of a fast moving object.

Sometimes it´s also good to choose the exposure time, ISO aso.

I have no idea who the dog belongs to. I just ran across this picture and wanted to share the smile. I have heard of firemen having to save cats from treetops, but never a dog outside the second floor of a building! I cannot imagine what the dog was thinking climbing out the window.

A real funny dog...maybe he saw a cat somewhere...

This is what happened in Germany (a few years ago but I read it only now). It´s a google translation of a German text (I only corrected a few mistakes) so that´s why it´s kind of "bumpy" :

A pensioner has in the past year properly with his typewriter
