Vorschmack = vorgeschmack oder vorgefühl

Just googled and found out that "Vorschmack" is just the word for a certain dish that is especially common in Eastern Europe.

Actually it is originally Jewish and has spread around the world with them. It is meat mixed with anjovis ( ) + spices and so on, cooked in the oven. Still very popular in Israel too.

Originally it really was an appetizer but then this dish became popular in its many varieties and it was also served as main course.
It is funny how certain names become attached to certain things althought the meaning sort of changes.
