Just googled and found out that "Vorschmack" is just the word for a certain dish that is especially common in Eastern Europe.

Actually it is originally Jewish and has spread around the world with them. It is meat mixed with anjovis ( ) + spices and so on, cooked in the oven. Still very popular in Israel too.

It is funny how certain names become attached to certain things althought the meaning sort of changes.
In English people sometimes call a vacuum cleaner a hoover . According to that we could call all mobile phones NOKIA or all cameras PANASONIC
