No, Ally - it gets darker much more quick in the northern parts. In Lapland there is not many minutes of daylight. Only after 20th March will the days start to get longer on the north.

They actually have some in Sweden too... Mostly in the northern parts where there is land border. But they are doing all they can to kill then off. They don't really belong in the Scandinavian nature.....

Really?? Where did they come from? Via Finnish Lapland?
I´m quite sure that the Swedes won´t succeed in killing the Raccoon Dogs off. Since the Raccoon Dogs were introduced in the Ukraine in the past century they have occupied half of Europe and any human effort to stop them has been unsuccessful. It´s an amazingly successful species!!

Is their feedingprogram that versatile that they always have enough
to eat and also can give birth to many young ones and so keep the
number of them as large as possible ? And the mange and being
killed by humans is not reducing that number??

Just a few examples of what is going on in Sweden ...
Sweden Fears Racoon Dog Migration
Experts in Sweden's most southern province Skåne are worried about a possible invasion of racoon dogs, also known as magnuts. The animal already lives in northern Sweden but according to experts the threat is not from the north but rather from neighbouring Denmark.
The racoon dog has managed to move from mainland Julland to the island Fyn in Denmark and Nils Carlsson, a wildlife expert at the county council, now say he is worried the animal could get over the narrow channel to Skåne.
This is a cause for concern, he says, since the racoon dog could bring with it diseases such as rabies and tapeworm that could be lethal to humans. Another problem with the animal is that it hunts birds nesting on the ground and rare amphibians.
In Finland the population of racoon dogs has grown uncontrollably and hundreds of thousands of them are hunted or killed in traffic every year. Sometimes the animals wander over the border to Sweden but the climate in the north is so harsh that only a small population can survive.
But there are effective measures to tackle the problem according to Carlsson.
One method means that hunters will capture one racoon dog which will then be treated for parasites and sterilised. A GPS transmitter will be attached to it so researches can follow the animal's movements and use it to find other racoon dogs that will be killed.
"A racoon dog is about one thousand times better at tracking down other racoon dogs compared to humans. This is why we use them this way," Carlson told newspaper Sydsvenska Dagbladet.

Sweden fears invasion of raccoon dogs from Denmark
The raccoon dog, an omnivorous canine native to Siberia, Manchuria and Japan, has migrated over the years as far afield as Europe and Scandinavia. Although they rarely pose a threat to humans, officials in Sweden are determined to keep this invasive species from its shores.
The Swedish government has already managed to halt the influx of raccoon dogs moving in from Finland, but new fears have surfaced that these creatures may now swim across the Oresund from Denmark, according to the Dagens Nyheter newspaper.
The raccoon dog typically eats rodents, birds, frogs and lizards. But its appetite for wild berries is what is really worrying Swedish authorities. The country’s berry farming organisations are predicting losses of their berry harvests by up to SEK 600 million if the raccoon dog gets a foothold in Sweden.
................................................
Swedish hunters to target marauding raccoon dogs
The Swedish National Environmental Protection Agency (Naturvårdsverket) has supported calls from the Swedish Hunters Association (Svenska Jägareförbundet) to target the animal which is described as a pest and has been compared to the American mink or the Spanish slug.
"This is good, we would rather that it is removed completely from the Swedish environment," Melanie Josefsson at the agency said.
The chances of a hunter coming across the beast, which resembles the raccoon in appearance but is no relation, are small as the animals are extremely rare in Sweden.
The Swedish authorities have in recent years led a successful fight to keep the raccoon dog population, which is indigenous to China, Korea and Siberian Russia, to a minimum.
"We think that it can be prevented from establishing itself as we have already begun to fight it at an early stage," Josefsson said.
But a new threat has emerged after over 20 recording sightings of the animal in neighbouring Denmark, with three occasions on record in 2008 alone.
Sweden now fears an amphibian invasion of the pest across the Öresund waterway between Copenhagen and Malmö.
The Swedes have previously taken a less ruthless approach to tackling the problem, employing instead a method of sterilization and tracking.
There are currently ten animals in Sweden carrying a radio transmitter inserted by researchers at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences who are conducting a project on the species.
Hunters have been urged to shoot only those that have not yet been identified.
Once the raccoon dog establishes a population in a country's flora and fauna it can be very difficult to root out. The animal is a known carrier of tapeworm and rabies and can threaten species of birds.
Swedish animal protection legislation does not cover wild animals and therefore the raccoon dog can be freely hunted. There has however been no formal decision taken to exterminate the species.
