ct 15.13..
Hatching here passes soo much faster than at LSE!
Fatherbird brought tiny caterpillar and mom carries the empty eggshells
outside!
ct 15.19.
3 or 4 have hatched already. It is a miracle to see how they manage to get out of the shell mom sitting on top of them!
Maybe the "shivering" she does helps..

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
Isn't it cool!! I think that when mom is on top it helps with a little pressure. Same thing goes for the hens, they hatch much better under mama

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
She picked up the shell and brought it outside. I cannot tell you whether she eats them or only throws them away. I did not see that,
but eating 7 eggshells seems to be rather much...
Probably they lay not directly under the nest..not attract an enemy..but somewhere
farther away..

Both parents seem to either eat or take away the shells. Mama would sure need the calcium!!

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
WOW great
Birds usually carry the empty egg shells away and drop them somewhere - but never directly below the nest.

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
Seems that one egg was not fertile. So we have 6 chicks. I wonder if the parents are going to do something to that egg or just let it be....??

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
Such eggs often remain in the nest - at least you often find an egg when cleaning out birdhouses after the chicks fledged...

If you have watched the cam you might have noticed how the parents keep the nest tidy - they carry food in and poop out. Nature is amazing!!

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
Did you knew that this little babys poop is like in bag that parents could carry it far away from nest
Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
The chicks are soon ready to fledge, probably during this weekend
I will miss them... I can hear the sound from the nestbox 24/7.....
They have become little stripies
Video June 22nd
