Oh yeah! ..and Caysa too..!!caysa wrote:Ophiophagus wrote:I have a question. ......The blue tit will build a nest, or you will build it?caysa wrote:I brought home a bag full of horse hair
You can't even imagine how much winter hair the horses had!! My intention was to just put some outside on the ground for the birds but the horse smell was too interesting for the dogs. Instead I filled a metal basket and Juha kindly hang it on a birch not far from the birdhouse.
Let's see how quickly the birds find it
Hehehehe, I don't think I am very good building birds' nests
Bur I know that many birds lile to use animal hair for their nests. I have been watching all sorts of birds in the horse enclosure at Anna's house - they are so happy to find nest material there, so I thought that at least some birds might use it here too.
So many birds are are very busy here in the garden now

Yes, moss. They start with plant material and then line the nest with material as animal hair.

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
It's really funny to see them work on their nest and entrance...
Just the same as the bluetits here did... I saw them come with moss
etc. and now they come together and one of them stays longer in
the box. There will be eggs I think.
Not yet coming with food...and sometimes picking and hammering
the wood besides the entrance! Like to see them.
Will see what the birds at D&Pplace are doing...maybe there are nests too...

I am sure there will be nests - you only have to be lucky to find them.
The birds are so clever - even if you stand still and just watch them - they might not fly to the nest at all as long as you are there.... Takes a bit of detective work sometimes.

I noticed the same - maybe the bedding was softer just there. Tonight we had the warmest night so far - it did not go below +10C, so I don't think the bird was cold.ergee wrote:The tit put the bed in the other corner..is it warmer there??

Really interesting to see how they make a soft and cosy nest
only by using beak and feet..and chest to press things a bit together..
And sometimes together and also alone and then calling to the other
one who is outside!
Caysa this is really good to see...fantastic idea to let us see and enjoy it!
Thanks once again!

It is amazing to watch how the nest is built - and imagine - the bird knows this without going to school

Inborn, cq innated knowledge is the best, acting on one's intition, instinct!
Much better than later learned things: think about bad manners, telling lies and so on!

If I were you I would try to catch this bumble bee (for instance by putting a plastic box in front of the entrance when the bumble bee is inside. When it has left the birdhouse and is in the box, put a lid on the box without letting the bumble bee escape) and let it free a few km elsewhere. It is happens quite often that bumble bees occupy birdhouses and I think the tits would loose this battle.
Otherwise you bird cam might change to a bumble bee cam (not bad either but I don´t think that it is what you want).

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
Hmmmmm, I might have to think about that if it happens again.
Seems that the bumble bees woke up today - we had +20 in the afternoon. They were evrywhere!! I had to carry out one from the house too (using a glass and a piece of cardboard). I hope this has happend only because they are so confused after just waking up.
Please, let me know if you see one in the birdhouse again, I am not watching it 100% of course....

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
The cam SHOULD be working now... I have had serious puter problems all morning. It should be ok for now.
At least I can see the cam on both mine and Juha's puter.
The sound you can hear is a chain saw - Juha is cutting down trees.
And it works here below too.....

It shows the bumble bee video, then there is some advertising, and then the cam loads... At least it was like that when I opened the cam a few minutes ago.

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
Yes.... I restarted the cam to be sure. The last official video shows when the cam is offline. Sadly the adverts pop up every time you open the cam page . It is possible to get rid of the adverts but that would cost really a lot of money - not just a few euros here and there...
