I hope it has to do with that they are not nesting yet. They can't start until there are bugs outside so that they can feed their babies. If they "sleep together" the babies might come too early

This is how it looks from outside when the female is cleaning the house... she doesn't drop the rubbish just anywhere - she is off to a branch further away and only there she drops it. Then back again.

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
I found a long article in Swedish about Bluetits.
They form a couple but most of them are not 100% faithful
Some gene test have been done and it showed that the male had mated with other females too and of course this means that the female has sone it aswell.... Still they are a couple and the male will feed his "official" female while she layes on the eggs. He will not take part in the nest building (as Ally already told us). When the chicks are born, both will feed them.
The male will "show" the female where there is a suitable nesting place, and the female plays along (altho she most probably also knows the place - aren't we women nice to men, they are so happy when they think they found the perfect spot for a home)
So.... most probably it is the female that we see working in the nest, the male is busy defending his territory (how typical is that???)
Oh, and one funny thing from the article - Bluetits are known to sometimes have homosexual relationships - let's hope this is not that, I want to see eggs and chicks
Here is a google translated English version of the site, the bluetit song can be heard in the background.

Yes, it is fascinating to follow their life. Many times little birds are just that - little birds... But to get to know them and to see them close up is so interesting!garina do mar wrote:Thanks for the article!

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
I saw a dead tit outside today.... I hope it was not "our tit".... There are so many of them here.
But today has been a quiet day in the birdhouse..... remains to see if anyone comes for the night.

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
I brought home a bag full of horse hair
You can't even imagine how much winter hair the horses had!! My intention was to just put some outside on the ground for the birds but the horse smell was too interesting for the dogs. Instead I filled a metal basket and Juha kindly hang it on a birch not far from the birdhouse.
Let's see how quickly the birds find it

I have a question. ......The blue tit will build a nest, or you will build it?caysa wrote:I brought home a bag full of horse hair

Hehehehe, I don't think I am very good building birds' nests
Bur I know that many birds lile to use animal hair for their nests. I have been watching all sorts of birds in the horse enclosure at Anna's house - they are so happy to find nest material there, so I thought that at least some birds might use it here too.
So many birds are are very busy here in the garden now

Here is a video where you can hear the bird (the female?) chatting and calling her partner. In the beginning you can clearly hear 2 swans flying over too
At the end the other bird came in too !!

It is bedtime in the birdhouse.
The bluetit arrived, preened itself and fluffed up and went to sleep.
