Re: American Bald Eagle - Norfolk Botanical Gardens (Virginia)
Before I go to bed, it looks like it is time for me to bring up this topic again for another year. The Norfolk Eagle forum will probably be up all night watching for the first egg of the season.
There is a new, better camera this year that has wonderful night vision. The male has found a new, young female for starting another family. (His previous mate of several years was killed by an airplane last summer) The pair has come back to the nest tonight instead of sleeping on branches, and she is laying in the nest bowl for the first time with the male on the branch above her to the left (His head and shoulders are in a shadow.)
It might be a long night at this nest (or a false alarm), so I am

As it turned out, there was no egg laid Thursday night.
But the plot thickened today when the male showed up at the nest with a different female!
The male has been seen mating numerous times with what they had thought was just the first female, but now they need to go back to review the videos to see if they can identify the second female in the mating pictures. The questions are flying into the forum about what happens if both the females lay eggs! It appears that the male will have some explaining to do.
There is never a dull year at this nest.
