In Western Greenland (which is where Nuuk is) there is only very few polar bears. In Eastern Greenland there is quite a lot of them - definately not an endangered species at all.

I have quite a lot anyway. 32 GB in total should be enough

I have no idea how to get internet access with a laptop when you´re travelling. I have taken my laptop with me on trips a few times but internet only works at home. I´m sure there is a way to get it working "everywhere" but I don´t know how.
All suggestions re this matter are welcome!!

Re: Ricky´s hut
That would be WiFi...... You probably have to pay for the use at the hotel tho, Greenland is not famous for free "anything"
You need a Wifi Network adapter.... many new laptops have them integrated but if yours doesn't have it you can get one. It is usually a usb-stick, with a antenna (visible or built in).
I would suggest that you look up if your hotel(s) have WiFi - most do nowadays.

Thanks!!
The hotel has WiFi. No information re the costs, though
WiFi would only work in the hotel, I think? Is there any way to get internet access "everywhere" - not only in hotels but also in remote areas without any civilisation in the neighborhood? I have sometimes wished having this possibility...

Not really, on Greenland at least. The mobile phone networks usually work fine for internet too, you just need a good phone. I can use internet almost anywhere in Europe on my mobile, altho my screen isn't that big. The new Nokia phones have very good internet and I know that you can even connect the phone to your laptop and use the phone as adapter/WiFi stick. But the problem on Greenland is that they have very bad mobile phone nets. There is little or no coverage outside the towns and villages. And the only mobile phone company does not necessarely have roaming agreements with all major companies in the world. This means that it is not at all sure that your mobile phone even works on Greenland.
Here you can check that and you will also see the areas that has coverage.

I was also referring to Central Europe (and New Zealand which might be important for me in 2 or 3 years).

I don´t think there is a way to connect to the internet with my phone. I think it is one of the phones that have the fewest features.

Well.... I have done some research earlier, so I knew about this page, mobileworldlive. It is good also to for internet connections as in fact it is almost always the same companies that provide both internet and mobile network.
In Europe you should not have big problems to get internet - I think you have to ask the internet providers in Austria for the best way.

Yes, I´m very much looking forward to this trip. Good thing that I like travelling by plane (I have not been on a plane for several years, though)

I was seriously thinking about taking it. But my only piece of luggage - my big backpack - is more than full. My hand luggage is so little that it fits in my pockets (many, big pockets ). I could - of course - take annother bag or such but this only makes it more complitcated.
See it positively: The less time I spend on LLL while being in Greenland/Iceland the more time I have to take pics

I´m off now. The plane will go quite late in the evening but at first we have to go to Munich (about 4 hours + maybe long traffic jams) and we don´t want to arrive at the airport just in time but a bit earlier.
See you (more or less) soon!!

Sorry, maybe to be too late:
All is written already I think: Once again: You and your family: have a good flight and enjoy the time coming, have good affairs and make lots of pictures!
And: have a good flight back home and arive in good health!

Hi everybody
It has indeed been a fantastic trip even though the business issues didn´t turn out as successful as we had hoped/expected. I´m sure you want me to report so I don´t have to go into detail now

Yes, we are perfectly well and sane apart of being quite tired as we got up early yesterday morning and haven´t slept until now apart of a few hours in the plane/bus/car.

I can imagine you beeing tired.... It is a long flight and trying to sleep in any moving vehicle is not that relaxing at all.
I bet you will have an early night and sleep like babies

Re: Ricky´s hut
How is your toe??
Mine was almost ok but now when the 3 weeks of antibiotics is finished... it hurts again
I so know that a piece of the nail that was cut off, is still in there. I will see a nurse today at 10.45... maybe she believes me??
I hope your toe is ok because this is not nice at all...

Re: Ricky´s hut
My toe is not perfectly okay yet but at least it is much better. Short walking and short hikes (less than 2 hours) are free of pain, after 3 - 4 hours of walking/hiking the toe starts hurting a bit. No strong pain, yet, but I don´t want to try how it feels after a whole day of hiking. And strong pressure on the toe is painful, too.

Re: Ricky´s hut
Back from seeing the nurse... there were actually two of them. They took me seriosly and got out magnyfying glasses and really looked where I said it hurts. They digged around a bit and found some dead tissue and a tiny bit of something hard. I hope it was the piece of the nail. Hard to say yet as now it is of course very sore.
The time of the year with warm air and high humidity does not make it any easier to heal either..... sigh....

I hope it will heal quickly anyway!! Summer is also quite unsuitable for such an issue as you don´t want to sit at home all the time. In winter that is easier...

Except in winter you cant go outside in Crocs....... My sore spot is in such a place that for example normal jogging shoes hurt... The Crocs have been my savior to get out and about.
