The LK member Waldschrat (I know him from a German hunting forum) asked when the Boar cam would start again. I answered. A bit later Waldschrat´s post was deleted. And what happened with my post you can see yourself...

I owe you an explanation for deleting Waldschrat's post, which you had quoted.

He wrote "Seals suck etc."

Immediately, several members clicked on the Report button and complained that it is a rude, offensive phrase.

After some research and by asking questions of people in other countries, I find that there are two ways of interpreting the Sucks comment. Those who complained perceive it to be an obscene and derogatory remark, but others (younger people and Australians) use it to mean nothing more offensive that boring, no good, not interesting.

With such an international membership, we can't predict who takes offence at what words or phrases, but as several people were offended, I just removed it.

Also, I PMed to Waldschrat to try to explain the reason for deleting. I hope he is not offended, as I hope you are not.

Well, it seems they WANT to missunderstand everybody...
Waldschrat had written something like "Seals suck. I want to see the Boars again. When will the cam return?" It should have been obious what he wanted to express (and I didn´t even think about the obscene way of understanding it)

Jo is perhaps a bit too old to be an admin.... Deleting is such an easy way to get rid of "bad" things....
One would think, that she, of all people, would know "nowaday" English slang a bit better?? She could have googled first and explained??

Although I don't want at all to be involved in this discussion I feel, after thinking a couple of hours about it, compelled to write that I can not agree with, among other things: the assumption that someone could be too old to be an admin. Who decides that and when is the limit?
An age of 50 or maybe 60?? I'm more inclined that too young and without enough experience, could be a bigger problem.
The question here is not: "she of all people" etc.etc. From an admin one can expect that he/she is trying to avoid words and ideas that can hurt or shock or insult other decent people. The admin has the right to delete and remove such posts. In this case the writers has been told why it has been done.
How the admin acts is up to her/him. Almost all LK readers understand English very well, so an admin is not obliged to explain words and "supposed" intentions.
I really do hope that we in LLL do not need the stricter rules of LK
to keep and enjoy our high and friendly level here!

-when I say too old in this case I do NOT mean age in numbers - at all . Don't take my words too serious!
What I mean is that if SHE does not know what "this word! stands for these days, then she is not up to date with the English language today. It is really NOT an obscene meaning in this phrase .
The main reason, that I felt that we needed this board in the first place was, because of the very strict rules on LK that caused many of us to get PM:s mainly from Jo... The reasons behind these were mostly that "someone" had contacted Jo regarding something that had been said - again due to language problems. Even if MOST members on LK understand English very well, some of them do not, and those people happen to be the most frequent to complain. Unfortunately Jo never tells a THEM to calm down and take it easy - she immediately sends PM:s to those who wrote something "disturbing" without meaning to do so.
Jo is a very, very kind and correct person. (yes, I have talked a lot to her privately too) She finds it very difficult to say something to those who complain to her. I can understand that - I do know!!!

I also want you to understand that my post here, as an answer to Ricky´s post, was an immediate reaction and it is NOT as serious as you take it.
I do not want this forum to be regulated by a few words here or there - I love the spontaneous answers and comments - I don't want us to have to sit and think long and hard before every post: Can I write this or that?? No, We must trust each other enough to know that we do not mean anything bad and not look for the possible evil thougt in every sentence.
I do not want to use my admin powers here either - only when a real threath occurs.
This must be a place where evryone can feel free and happy!!!

To put it quite plainly: generally it is not very sensible to express assumptions which cannot be proved, not even when afterwards is declared all should have been a joke... More I don't wish to write about all this.

Earlier today I saw a White-tailed Eagle on the shore.

Accoding to what I read on LK forum they are more or less frequent visitors but I ususally miss them

True, you would need to have a lot of time to watch the cam.
But every now and then you can get lucky !!!

I almost always have the cam running in the background of my computer screen. But since the eagles usuall do not call I don´t notice them...

The sound from the sea is so loud - hard to hear anything else - sometimes I hear a gull or even a seal but often I almost mute the sound when it is windy. Maybe the microphone needs a ?

I also do not have full volume all the time.
Just now I have about 30% of the maximum volume possible. And that´s quite a lot actually. Usually I have even less.

I can hear the waves and a seal is howling...

Just an adult WTE flew by very close to the cam.
