A seal attack has left a man with serious injuries and a New Zealand walkway covered in blood this morning.


The 85-year-old man was walking on the New Plymouth Coastal Walkway about 8.15am local time when he was set upon by the creature.

''They usually come towards you a bit then back off, but he just kept on coming,” witness Kevin Harvey told stuff.co.nz. ''There was blood on the ground everywhere and obviously (the seal) had attacked the walker.''

The man sustained a serious leg injury and was taken to Taranaki Base Hospital in a serious condition.

Mr Harvey, who lives in New Plymouth, said the seal was unusually aggressive and also lunged at him and he was forced to throw stones at it to try and scare it away.

Armed police were required to provide a protective barrier against the animal while the man was treated by St John paramedics.

Adult female New Zealand fur seals can weigh up to 50kg and males up to 150kg.

Some yes, but the older ones must be a week old, and there are 2 very young, the white soft toy close to the cam and the other on the right side don't even know how to move...

Lots of eagles

Yesterday, an eagle, a puppy and some seals


The puppy is very interested in the eagle


And did try to play with the eagle but the eagle didn't want to


So the puppy tried to play with the jays

There is a baby seal near the adult on the left side. It seemed that it was sucking but it is impossible to see

After some time turned to the floor, the seal cam is now ok. The puppies are not so small but some are still in soft-toy style.

how seals react to the activity of white-tailed eagles
When the sealing season ends and the animals leave, the bird life on the island begins.

Seals come back in the autumn (but may be sooner). A webcam lets us know when seals come and go, how often do they go? Do they come alone or with partnerships, etc.

It is a human curiosity to understand animals and nature and to gain new knowledge without being present and disturbing their edits."
