Re: Boar cam Winter 2014-2015
A small group. The adult got a "plate" on his nose
There is a white thing (a bottle?) but Mait passed by it and didn't care.
Other pigs try to come into the feeding ground but the adult is chasing them

Good evening Garina,
Do you see the "white thing" just beside the white
plate? That might be a savoy cabbage, brought on 27
December when the people and the children were there
with all kinds of food.
Mait would have removed a bottle I guess, but for us it is rather difficult to see things in mud and snow...
I would love to hear the wolves howling one of these
evenings, but I think we will have to wait till some night in February...please make a video than!
Have a nice weekend!
Now I've seen a thing like a bottle ...with the label of an expensive Spanish wine!!
...but on the last picture I could see it no more...

Lots of pigs! I think that there are the 3 families. And another group in the back that didn't dare to enter

In LK some, rather new, members do not know much about
the time when the animals come to the feedingground.
The first years we also were often waiting for the roedeer
and some weeks later they were often there.
How sad we felt when we could hear the furries in the
trap or some shooting... and the poor foxes...
But we 've learned lots of things! Even about Volly
aso.
So I posted this in LK...
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
In former years the roedeer more often came later in January, February and also in March .
As far as we can see there is not yet a thick layer of snow, (for example 50 cm) probably they find still enough food in other parts of the woods and fields.
In former years, there also were wolves around: we know that and sometimes could hear them howl, this winter the roedeer also will know that wolves are around and often hear or smell them.
And it is not so cold yet...other years with 10 or more minus
degrees all animals needed to find enough food, at the moment life still could be rather easy for them. ( I hope...)
I remember that Mait years ago brought hay in the hayrack but
roedeer seldom ate it ( as far as we could see).
Once some twigs with leaves have been
hanging on some trees but as far as I know we never saw elks
eating them.. and elks are not often there.
We have to be patient...and wait for more snow and -10* or still
lower temperatures....brrrr!
And sit in a warm room at the pc and hear the branches of the
trees break when the fluid in those branches freezes, expands and
makes these branches burst what makes sounds like gunshots...
Do you shiver with cold already??

Ergee, you painted an accurate picture for the newcomers at LK! Watching has been different this year than in the past.

Re: Boar cam Winter 2014-2015
Quite good Ergee
Only you are right and wrong about the roedeer. We have seen them early in December in previous years so that has nothing to do with the season itself but with the cold (and there you're right) with the height of the snow. Last year there was almost no snow (and I don't remenber to see roedeer last year) and this year although there is snow many times it rains and snow goes away so they find food without the need to come into the light

Yes Garina, I agree with you, of course we have seen the roedeer in December but later, when there were wintermonths with much longer lasting lower temperatures and with more snow they came more often.
Maybe I should not have mentioned the name of the months but the height of the snow, but I think most readers will understand this.
The animals may not have a real calendar to know when to go to this feedingground
but use their instinct, their built in knowledge where to go to get food when the circumstances are rather hard.
Would be interesting to read some of your thoughts
about nature and animals in Estonia...

Re: Boar cam Winter 2014-2015
At CT 15.00 Mait brought some food, not all because there was still enough from yesterday.
Not long after his departure 2 roedeer came, probably they recognized his car. They stayed about 15 minutes, than something in
the wood at the left side frightened them and they slowly left.
My Print Scr. does not work good, so I borrowed this
(out of more) picture from LK.
