Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
The birdhouse should face the best direction possible - wind and rain
should not be able to get into it. So it should not face the direction
from where bad weather usually comes.
The birds usually like to sit/land close to the nest. If there are branches close to the birdhouse everything es okay. If not it might be a good idea to attach a bar of wood (or branch or similar) either on the tree or on the birdhouse.
Until the chicks hatch you there should be as little disturbance arounf the biordhkuse as possible. Otherwise the parents might abandon the nest.
The rest is up to the bird...

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
It was Ansa yes!!
The birdhouse is not more than 5 meters from the house and the birdfeeder. It is in the exact same spot on a birch trunk where a birdhouse has always been. The old one was starting to rotten so it was a good time to change it. It is facing the house (which gives protection too) and it is facing away from the most usual spring and summer wind direction.
About leaving it alone and in peace... hmmm hahaha.... The dogs are everywhere of course but I guess the birds are used to them as it has not affected their nesting earlier either. I just tried to count the birdhouses we have here, must be at least 10 of them.
So... ok... seems that we have done the best we can. Lets hope the birds will like it too.

The knocking you hear right now is the woodpecker, it is eating at the birdfeeder a few meters away from the cam.

It is infra red light, they cannot see it That is why the pic looks black and white.
The birds are more intersted in the camera, they need to know it is safe, I guess.
The last knocking we heard - on top of the house - was a grey headed woodepecker
I have not seen one this spring yet. I saw that it looked at the birdfeeder..... and now it actually came there.
The birdfeeder cam is offline - if I have two cams going my puter says NO NO NO
But I got some pics, I hope....

This is taken through the window here, I could not go closer.... so my books and some plants in front of the window was a bit disturbing.

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
I think Robin means that there is a (small) gap between the "floor" and the "side walls" - those white areas in the pictures - where daylight gets into the birdhouse... It it hard to tell how big those gaps really are. If they are big it might be a good idea to cover them somehow...

Ahaa, ok.... the gaps are really really tiny! They guy that sold the cam also made the house and he has made hundreds....
But of course - even just duct tape at the bottom outside could do the trick if necessary.

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
I will add the Picus canus pics here as it was heard on this cam
The first and the last pic are taken through the window - not ideal at all as it was nowing too.... The other pics I took from outside trying to hide on the veranda... The sno fall did not make the pics better but for sure it is a female Greyheaded woodpecker... ?

Tiny gaps donĀ“t matter. As Ally said, the nest will cover them anyway.

Look at this pic... it is already dark outside and still the bottom gaps look like there is light coming through. The nest opening hole shows no light!! I think it must have something to do with the infra red light....
