Re: Black Stork Camera Lovers
Hirv seems to be Red Deer
(I thought you saw an elk=moose and then looked for the meaning of hirv. "Elk" always is a bit confusing as it refers to 2 species... )
Great you saw the Red Deer!! That doesn´t happen that often actually...

Re: Black Stork Camera Lovers
my dictionary said that hirv is elk or deer (just deer) and i desided to write elk
but yeah i was wondered, too, then i saw it...poor creature seemed "gray"... winter was hard, but now they can find tiny tiny green leaves

With such things dictionaries often are not very reliable. I usually use wikipedia. I search for the German subject and then change the language to English. Of course the same works for any other language.
That way I also found out the meaning of hirv. http://et.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punahirv (click on "English" and you get "Red Deer").
Elk is another deer species that lives in America. But also the European Moose (Põder) is called Elk. That´s why it is confusing
In winter Red Deer have a brown-grey coat. Soon they will get their red summer coats. And before changing their coats they look VERY grey and shabby - as if they were sick.
Ooopps - I just found out another thing. Your dictionary actually was right: Hirv means Deer. Red DEER mean PunaHIRV and Sika DEER means TähnikHIRV. But as the Red Deer is the only hirv species in Estonia (Roe Deer and Moose are no HIRVS according to wikipedia ) you just say hirv=deer when referring to the Red Deer (it´s the very same in German ).
Now that was quite a research

Re: Black Stork Camera Lovers
Just to confuse you all a bit more: in Finnish the word HIRVI means moose
HIRVAS = male reindeer (used for breeding), (the female beeing vaadin)
Then again... HIRVIELÄIMET (roughly translated moose animals) is the correct translation for Cervidae family.....

Yes, the volume is good -- a large number of geese were passing by the nest just now. Very loud.

Re: Black Stork Camera Lovers
It seems that none of us has seen the BS otherwise it would have been posted here.
90% of my time being at the computer the BS cam is running. And OF COURSE the BS has to show up in the remaining 10% when another cam is running...
I hope he/she will return soon!!
