I have never seen it LIVE either, although it sometimes occurs in Southern Finland. It looks so special that you for sure would notice it!

Dieser Phoenicurus ochruros , Hausrotschwanz, etc. is rather
early or? Could it be a 1 year old man..greyblack and not yet a
rust-coloured brest? Are there already flys and insects enough to
catch and eat for him?? Lucky you to see him!

Yes, he´s quite early but not TOO early either
ergee wrote:Could it be a 1 year old man..greyblack and not yet a

It´s quite an old male actually. The older a male is the darker his plumage gets.
European Phoenicurus ochruros males never have a rust-coloured breast, only Phoenicurus phoenicurus males have.

I´ve been wondering about that too but I saw how he caught a larva or something like that

I agree, my book is a bit unclear: east of Caucasia they can have a rust-col.breast.
But it is an interesting bird!ergee wrote:Are there already flys and insects enough to

Re: Ricky´s hut
The procession of the black redstart begins in the Mediterranean region in a January already. Males occupying their brood area first, they because of a March arrive.

Re: Ricky´s hut
I had not seen the Black Redstart since Wednesday (neither it ate any meat) so I already feared that it might have died of a lack of food.
But today he was back again! And as the snow is melting quickly he won´t have any more problems with finding enough food.
And today also the first Wood Pigeon was calling!

Re: Ricky´s hut
On Sunday morning I have to leave for a buissness trip to Germany. Most probably I will be back late on Tuesday (though maybe the trip might even last until Wednesday).
I hope pig cam has not closed until then

Have a good and safe trip!!
(don't even mention pigcam closing - besides I did read on LK today that the small bird feeding cam, that is closed now, is most probably moving to the LSE nest this season. That was why pig cam closed when it closed last year...)

Re: Ricky´s hut
Thanks
Well, then the pig cam will be moved to the Black Storks (last year the small bird feeder cam was moved there). The result is the same
But maybe we are very extremely enormously lucky and pig cam stays where it is

I don´t think that a detailed report would be interesting for you but I will post a few pics about "nature along the roads"
Boar cam doesn´t work Now I have to read what happened...

Yes, I saw that..... And nobody even "warned" us.... I have the feeling the only man that knows what happens is Mr. LK (and he never tells anything anyone)
