Re: Deer Trail Cam from Minnesota
There is food under the snow and the deer and the squirrels are able to dig it out.... and I actually had a discussion with Mrs Deerfeeder yesterday - the deer have not got used to the snow yet, they stay in more sheltered.
Did you know that the little pond there is heated!!!
I also watched hungry pigeons - they are clever!! They stayed in the background while a squirrel digged out the food. When it was exposed they all flew in and the poor squirrel had to back off!
I don't know who owns the cat but that dog I saw belongs to the neighbor....

Same here. Although Roe deer hardly find enough food under the deep snow they hardly move around and even hardly visit the feeders.

2 years ago - when hunting Jays - I actually had some trouble with the squirrels but I also had some observations that were a bit similar to yours on the cam.
I regularly put some maize on a certain spot in the forest of the HA where I had been hunting in that year. Soon jays, squirrels, Roe deer, nuthatches Greater Spotted Woodpeckers and Crested Tits had found the maize and visited more or less regularly. The "problem" was that the squirrels were quite numerous (often there were 3 or more of them together). And the Jays really were afraid of the squirrels. So either the Jays didn´t dare to come at all or the squirrels chased them away. So Jay hunting often turned to squirrel watching which was nice too - and a but funny... Once in a while one of the squirrels left taking some maize with it to hide it somewhere. And the squirrels also chased away each other, so especially the smaller ones had problems to get any maize. So what did the smaller ones do? They watched the bigger ones to find out where they hid their food. Then the smaller squirrels dug out the maize that the bigger squirrels had hidden

I don't think that they care - fox pee smells much worse and that they are used to

Caysa, I think that you must know everyone and everything!

No, they are just very cleaver when it comes to finding food. I don't know how many "squirrel-free" bird feeders that my husband has tried only to find that they seem to be able to figure them out and get the food!

I can't stop seeing those bunnies as pet bunnies
Look how similar to waht they call "hermelin bunny" - the most popular pet bunny here.
Our hares have quite a bit longer ears...
