I think that Mr. Shovel won with his sizes. There would not be a chance of him opposite a buck with a similar age. To mate possibly because of his hind leg neither can.

A couple of growls, and the strange deer escapes between the trees. Some scrabbling, and the new pit is ready ...... under the camera!

Poor mr Shovel..... he is not feeling so good..
But at least he has eaten something as he is ruminating

He is up now, but on 3 legs.... I wonder if he can use the bad leg at all??

And down again... In the same spot..... Poor boy....

Mr Shovel can stand on his hind leg, he even can walk and get down
and stand up.. the leg seems not to be broken, maybe it is sprained.
Lucky that the forepaws are ok, an injurie there would be more serious, now he can dig a new place to lie down. Also his voice is ok, a couple of days rest will do a lot , there are no wolfs I think, he will recover, he is strong!!

I noticed earlier that he tried to dig.... But he didn't want to put weight on that leg. So he used only his antlers instead.
