Wow! I never saw the ladies. It seems that they come late at night
Re: Red Deer Cam (Saarema Island)
The "ladies" came early tonight. But the pigs arrived just at the same time and scared them.
They are slowly trying to get near the food

Re: Red Deer Cam (Saarema Island)
I just want to "correct" 2 statements of that article.
Red Deer reach sexual maturaty at the age of 1, not at the age of 3.
It IS possible (not too difficult actually) to tell calves (fawns) apart from cows (hinds). It´s not only the difference in size but also the "juvenile" body.
I just googled for a suitable pic to show this - the fawn is on the right

It's so cute!
Looking in a glance and if it wasn't the ground depression we almost think that it is our pig cam

Re: Red Deer Cam (Saarema Island)
Maybe Red Deer ladies are not afraid of the Rd but don't want to be seen in his company!
No manners at all:
sitting in the food and claiming it all belongs to him...
that is not done and shows very bad behaviour!
Bad example for the young deer that is with them!

Hi Bisky! It's a pity they put the food on the "hole". It's more difficult to see the pigs
Re: Red Deer Cam (Saarema Island)
Mr Magnificent is there. And a big mouse is going around. Then a fat furry appeared and they ran way from each other
It was easy to see tonight that Mr Magnificent only has 2 "lower antlers" on the left side. Maybe he lost it on a fight?

Re: Red Deer Cam (Saarema Island)
Once again, he has moved out of the way for the boars.
With all the loud, terrible noises in the distance when the cam first re-opened for the season, I would not be surprised if he lost some part of his antlers fighting.
I have spotted the mouse several times when checking the camera, but I have not been fast enough to get a video started -- he moves very quickly out of sight.
