good morning!
Next week, on Wednesday I hope to leave to Switzerland for some days. The village named Curaglia should be nice, look at the picture,
made in summer ..webcam is on the hotel.
On Oct. 8 it was snowing there...the cam was a bit covered with snow too
And the Oberalppass we have to overcome.. was closed because of
the snow....

A part of the Oberalppass during the summer...
2 Days ago you only could see the snowcovered roof..it is near the
restaurant on the top of the Pass. The road was closed.
And today the road has been opened again. The Pass is between
Andermatt and Disentis in the middel of Switzerland, leading from
West to East. A beautiful mountain landscape!

I wish you a very pleasant trip! The Oberalppass should be passable as the snow is melting quite quickly now (if there´s no new snow...)

Beautiful tree!!! Your summer is so much longer there..... We have a sea of leaves on the garden - the children love those! But it is so cold already, we have now had many nights with frost and even during the day it is only 5-7 degrees. Brrrrrrr....
Brave people with those flying objects!!! Has anyone tried that???

No, I havn´t - and I think I never will
But there is an annual competition with them here - must be hundreds of them flying at the same time The thing I dislike about them is that once wild animals see them they flee, almost panically. Flying along a valley one of these things can make all animals in this valley panic. And when there are so many of them it´s even worse of course...

Re: Good Morning!
Happy Sunday morning!
Some friends and I took a short trip the other day to an Amish community ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish ) about 90 minutes from here called Arthur, Illinois ( http://amishamerica.com/illinois-amish/ ) to visit a pumpkin farm and have lunch in an Amish home.
First of all, this is a postcard picture--but the rest are mine! We had hoped to see the men working in the fields with their horse-drawn machinery, but all the fields had already been harvested just like in the postcard. The weather was overcast and a little rainy, but it did not dampen our fun.
This is the home where we had a wonderful lunch of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn cut off of the cob, noodles, fresh baked bread with apple butter, and coconut cream or apple pie. There is no electricity in the homes (due to their religious beliefs) so all the lights, the stove, and the refrigerator are all gas powered. (No computers, televisions, or telephones ) They do not drive automobiles, so they have to travel by horse and buggy. The homes are usually large white farm houses that are added on to when their children marry and start their own families--everyone lives in their own section of the home and they all come together in the large kitchen/dining area to cook and eat the daily meals and for family time together in the evenings.
After lunch, we went to the pumpkin farm.
My friend, Bebe, looking at the pumpkin tree.

Morning, Bisky
What a wonderful day you had !!! I have seen many programs and read a book even about the amish people. Somehow such a romantic and lovely way to live but it must have it's downsides too....
It is known worldwide that they make lovely food, you were so lucky that you could taste it!!! If I some day come to USA one of the things I want to do is visit an amish community!
Thank you so much for telling us about your trip!!
Did you buy any pumpkins????

No, unbelievably we did not. We traveled by bus and already had too many packages from the three bakeries that we found. I would have loved to hitch up that wagon and bring it home! Next year we will return by car.
Ally, your pumpkin spread looks yummy.

Re: Good Morning!
Good morning Bisky, what a wonderful report of that day; your pictures remind me of the ones A&J made some years ago in Amish country! So nice things these Amishpeople created with the pumpkins, and they must be a strong community and have their own problems too...young and old living so close together can not be easy every day!
Thank you for showing all those interesting things, I really hope next year you can visit them again by car and bring home all the things you want!

Re: Good Morning!
Today Juha totally surprised me
He said that he thinks we need a new camera. And he had already looked one up!! So..... Off we went and got it. Very good deal, I think - normally this camera with two lenses costs 900 euros but today we got it for 500 euros - special price!
Now I only need to learn how to use it

We need to attend a course, I think - to learn how to use the camera correctly...
But of course we shall try it out as soon as the battery is fully loaded.
(And after spending this money we shall eat porridge only for a month )

Yes, porridge is healthy but it might get a bit boring in the long run
Thankfully we also have all sorts in the freezer
You made a good deal with the bank - soon you will see more money there!

Re: Good Morning!
Guess what??? A car came... a man stepped out and asked if this is the Suomalainen house... I said yes......
He gives me a plastic bag with smaller bags inside: Grounded moose meat!!!
Then he explains that he is from the hunting club in which area our forest plot is . All landowners get some meat when a moose is shot - wohoo!!!
When you need it the most, the help is just around the corner - now I can make moose meatballs
