Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
Surprise!!
This morning, at 6.47, the Bluetit came to check the nest!!
I don't know what this means, if anything, but I will not touch the eggs now!

I can be patient if needed but I am not so sure if I can control nervosity... But the birds will not know that I am nervous so I guess it's ok then.....ergee wrote:Nature solves many problems in his own time...

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
Something has gone wrong with the sound on the cam - we don't know why. At least here the only sound we hear is a humming sound - no birdsong or anything else
We are soon leaving to have a small Mother's day outing but after that we must try to reinstall things. I just hope that it is not the microphone itself that is broken....

Have a nice mother's day with the whole family!
And if you have to open the nestbox you can decide what to to with
the 2 "things" in there....
Without them other birds easier can go nesting...

I have tried to raise chicks a few times (either abandoned nest or fallen out of the nest) - with and without success... Feeding them regularly was not really the problem. The biggest problem is that if 1 chicks gets ill the other will probably too and die. The bigger the chicks are when you find them the easier it is...
In this matter my most wonderful experience was a little Great Tit who became so attached to me that it kept visiting me for months after I had let it free (this was 8 years ago I think)...

I don´t think that the flycatchers will dislike the eggs - after all they "stole" the nest without expecting humans to remove the blue tit´s eggs...

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
The only thing I saw was that the flycatcher visited the nextbox and
left...Could that bird remove two or more eggs?? Maybe it is easier
to look for another nestbox...
Bird interested people here advice to remove "lost" eggs in a nest
that is left..but OK...
Did you see the mallard remove the egg from the nest but did not
come back??
The blue tits here also removed old straw and feathers out of the box
before making a new nest...
But if they were thinking...I do not suppose that and everybody
can do like he wants...I only tried to think rationally.

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
The eggs are "gone" now anyway.... Last night we had -7C. That is too cold, I am sure. So we will see if we remove the eggs or not. The flycatchers are around all the time, I do not want to disturb them. I am not sure if there is a female.... but at least 3 birds are acting quite... well, hmm, friendly I will try and get some pics of them.
Our biggest problem now is to get the camera (and hopefully sound too) to work.
Something happend during last night. In the evening the sound worked fine but in the morning sound was gone. I restarted the broadcast, but no... Now Juha has been trying to install everything again... using the driver CD - and guess what?? the CD broke into two pieces.
We are trying to look for a downloadable driver software on internet now.
For some reason this is not easy at all........................... SIGH

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
I was up until 2.30 am, I chatted online with a Ustream expert - everything he could think of was done and ok. Outside was already silent so it was hard to determine anything. Then - thankfully - a plane flew over and I heard that sound SOMEWHERE !!!But not via Ustream because I closed the sound there and still I heard the airplane, vaguely - but I heard it. I went to Windows sound settings (for the 176th time, I'm sure) and tried to make sure that this "usb interface" was not in use anywhere else. No, every place just had "Realtek" which is the PC's own sound system. I randomly started to tick buttons.... Finally when I ticked one certain button - to use Realtek in yet another way - Ustream sound started to work
I have no idea how it affects the cam sound and sound broadcasting, it does not seem logical, neither had Juha this morning, but who cares - it is working
And I am tired, 3 hours of sleep is not quite enough even for me. But will help

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
I have never seen the male beeing interested in the eggs at all. And according to my birdbooks they never empty the nest. They jus build more on top when the female comes.AllyKass wrote:full eggs ofcourse not,but if it split these...then maybe it can throw these out...caysa wrote:I think there are 5 eggs, actually - the bluetit covered them.... Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
Female pied flycatcher..Ficedula hypoleuca. Trauerschnapper, Bonte vliegenvanger.
Male.
Wikipedia a.o says: Birds may build a nest on top of another previously used nest, but this may promote disease and parasite infestation, and
increase the likelihood that a predator will be able to reach in and nab eggs/ nestlings that are closer to the entrance hole.
The detritus also can attract fire ants etc etc....
Good luck!

Re: CAYSA's BIRDHOUSE CAM
It is Tuesday morning..... and AGAIN the sound on broadcast is gone
I can hear the sound PERFECTLY through my speakers and that is NOT how it should be. I tried the trick that worked the other night, now it does not help.
I have no idea what to do next.....
