musical taste
I don´t think we have had this topic before??
Well, I thought it might be interesting to know what music we like.
I´ll make a start - some examples of what I listen to:
at first some well-known rock and glam metal bands like Europe and Bon Jovi
then power metal: Avantasia - currently my favorite band
Edguy is great as well
For relaxing I also like Mike Oldfield

How go together the heavy metal and the silence of the forest ?

I have often wondered the same. Maybe opposites attract?
It´s just that I like powerful music and non-conformism.
It might sound funny... but to me this kind of music does not feel "extreme" at all.

Re: musical taste
A warm and sunny summerday, everything is calm
and the whole nature seems to be silent...
Than there are dark clouds, coming on the horizon and the wind is getting stronger, yet still far away there are lightnings and thunder is heard.
The whole atmosphere is changing, you feel a shiver because suddenly the wind is colder now and a real thunderstorm with heavy rain and hail is coming down..you need a shelter!
After more than an hour the shower has stopped, an hesitating, still vague sun is coming from behind the clouds disappearing in the distance.
A kind of steam is rising from the grasses and flowers
in the meadows, even the leaves on the high trees are shining like fresh washed and the whole atmosphere seems to disperse a new fresh perfume.....
All this I imagine to hear and feel and see when listening to the Alpensymphony op 64, composed by Richard Strauss in 1915.

Re: musical taste
and....I also love to hear: songs of Barbra Streisand,
Tina Turner, Neil Diamond, esp. Jonathan Livingstone
Seagull, Belafonte, Charles Aznavour, Ella Fitzgerald, Tom Jones, Opera and
other works and cd's and video's sung by Placido Domingo. And: of course Anna Netrebko and so on.
And seldom, when I'm alone because it is much too sad to present it other people: Die Winterreise von Schubert many songs, among them: Der Wegweiser...the Signpost , last words:
"I see one signpost standing there,
steadfast before my gaze.
There is one road that I must take
From which no one has ever travelled back".
And more modern music, but not often hard metal
etc...too much noise...for me could choose that when I'm very angry and turn it very loud then..
but my neighbours will think I'm getting mad! (Thank God I'm seldom sooooo angry! ).
André Rieu...James Last, and much modern orchestras and bands.
It depends of my mood but I think all that
must be enough, or??? Don't forget: I'm a very old woman! Haha

I was glad you told so much - I had already feared that "my" metal had scared everybody off

Re: musical taste
25.sept passed away estonian singing legend jaak joala.
he sang his first time on the television, then he was 16 years old and already then he sang himself to estonian's heart. he became famous in 1970th and 1980th years in all soviet union, he was top in soviet music heaven with alla pugatshova and valeri leontjev.
then he have every day 3 concerts and this was too much....one day he just felt that, what i doing on the stage?? and he ended!!!
in this rusian concerts time he got nickname: "nightingale of the kremlin" (this was for him highly offensive-because he not made politic-he was just a singer, who not got out of iron curtain, but whose talent was looking out of estonia)
the end on his life he was...large hermit...he not talked about his private life and did not give interviews.
after singing he made broadcasts on tv and radio, he had some students in music school.
his father was sensitive healer and jaak's friends said jaak was interested about esoteric, too
estonians loved all his songs, but here is 10 of them

Re: musical taste
Good morning Ally,
Thank you for posting about this wonderful singer
Jaak Joala!
What a beautiful voice he has, a pity that I can't understand and translate the words, but that makes
the joy of listning at him not less moving!
I'll listen longer as soon as I have more time! Thanks!
