Boars cam, winter 2012 - 2013

There just was a strange soft sound, like a bird calling or a doe could
use in the conversation with her calf (or opposite: the calf to mom)...but that is not the right time in winter.
Owl? A very high tone.
The roe deer were not frightened.

It was probably a bird that made the sound: the Pygmy owl, Glaucidium passerinum.

It looks like it is time for the day shift to take over. It was a quiet evening after the deer left.

At LK I saw this picture Dima made of a beautiful fox with a very light
throat/chest. To nice not to show it here too!

I have never seen anything like that - looks like a cross between fox and marten

Another pretty sunset for the pigs.

Ct 23.50 Pygmy owl is flying around and the sound is like: peep-peep----peeppeep----peeppeep---- etc.
somewhat further away and after some minutes back and all that once
again. Yesterday evening that bird was there at CT 23.39.

Roedeer are listening but not afraid...a second buck is disturbing them,
a second doe came and doe Nr 1 went to her and for a moment they acted like kissing
each other...strange animals sometimes. But you can see that the
couple that was already there does not like the newcomers...
The sounds of there footsteps are sooo sharp and loud and some
trees are popping..it must be very cold.

CT 10.53
3 Ladies (?) and 1 Buck; as we know that there are 3 Bucks regularly there
must be 6 roedeer around...

About wolves: the story of a kid that lived alone in the forest in the south of Spain since 7 years old until he was 19. It's nice. In the end of the movie it's him - Marcos Rodriguez Pantoja -who returned to the place where he lived.

Ct 18.54. Hunger was stronger than fear, but as the machine came closer they had to withdraw into the forest..but not for long

All the animals tonight are nervous and stay only a very short time on the ground. Why: new smells..other sounds, but what? Popping of trees
they know. Is there someone in the hide?? Sound on my PC rather loud on but I can't hear strange or unknown sounds... (nor do I smell strange things here...)

So: Why are the animals so nervous tonight? Okaskera?? Do you understand them??

Yes, he is beautiful but all animals tonight are extreme nervous, but why?

The video you showed I have seen..interesting, but some questions
there are: Why is that boy brought away from his home...what was
he blamed for? And the man where he was brought also dropped him..
And at the end, he was brought somewhere walking behind that horse,
but, again, what was his fault?
Can you help me in some words to explain why he was guilty of what??

Hi Ergee. About the movie: the boys let the wolves kill 5 goats and the dog, so the step mother of Marcos was very angry and made his father get rid of him. That region of Spain was, until not so long ago, very poor and the father sent the boy to work for a rich guy and received money for it. The rich guy sent him to help the other (and learn) to take care of the goats. When he was caught after helping the smuggler to hide (there was a high money premium for those who caught the smugler and so the guys were very mad at him), he was living in the forest alone for some ten or eleven years, he didn't know how to talk any more and was really wild and so was taken to the village. I think that in the real life the story of the smugler is invented to give more emotion: the guy was discovered for someone that said that there may be a wild human living in the forest and they got him.
In the end its really him: the filmmaker asked a detective to find out where he was and asked him to revive the times when he was in the forest.

Thank you Garina, that was a real double story now. First the video
and now I understand the whole story.
Some parts of the video were clear but I'm always curious to know
why exactly things happen. Now I will watch the story once again.
Sometimes there are still people found somewhere in the woods or
mountains etc. some of them have choosen for being alone without
a particular reason, others while they have to hide...

Have you seen how restless the buck was..the boars also were
behaving very strange, all the groups that came.
Why? Maybe the wolves are on their way, loudless, but they can
smell them. But loudless is not possible with this cold snow, you can
hear everything. But this night the owl was not around..too cold?
And Volli would not meet him...

It is (-) 20ºC on Tartu, so it's really very cold, I think it is difficult to them to stay on the frozen ground

Yes and the ground is a rather open spot..between tighter woods it will be somewhat less cold
and gives them a safer feeling too...
At the moment they are poor animals...

Hello Bisky, Yes they have been there, even Hobble was a short moment there with 3 others,
and a group of about 7 and some "strangers" who looked around, got a mouthfull food and
run back into the forest.
They all behaved strange, like Garina says: extreme low temperatures and these silence:you can
hear everything, even if it is rather far away.
Maybe that are the reasons!

Thanks. We have been busy watching college basketball tournaments and I have only checked the cam every now and then. The line of grain did not look disturbed enough for the pigs to have visited. They must have been tidy eaters tonight!

All of them were too short there to make a mess....
And we have new snow, since last night and the whole day there were showers and it is
freezing again.
I covered my roses..they just had got new leaves.
