It's lovely, I discovered it this year and also find it beautiful.

Yes, let's wish that we will have the right amount of "water" next year: not less neither too much

In Portugal there is Xmas everywhere since one month before and as many people have hollidays some days before (no school for kids) it's usual to send Xmas cards one week before Rolling Eyes

Thank You, Ricky!

We have very much the same traditions as in Estonia. We also start cleaning on the 21st lol! ( I did not as I still don't feel well enough).
Today we usually do the last bits of baking and cooking and on the 23rd we go out and find the Christmas tree. It will be brought inside and allowed to melt but it is not decorated until the morning of Christmas eve.
Also the rest of the house will get the decorations then.
At 3pm we go to Christmas church which is a short family service with the most loved Christmas hymns and so on.
After that we go home and have Christmas dinner. Then it is time to expect Santa Claus - will he come this Christmas or not?????
Poor kids, they can't wait!!!
On Christmas day we usually just relax with the family. Boxing day is the day when we can visit relatives if we wish to. Also it is traditionally a day for outing.

What does your Christmas look like? It would be nice if you told us how it is done on your country/ family santa

Here in America, it is so commercialized that Christmas decorations, shopping, baking, and merriement is 'pushed' upon us starting just before halloween (Oct. 31st) now. The need to keep up with the neighbors has people decorating their houses and trees the beginning of December now. The demands for the 'I wants' is usually driving everyone completely mad by the first week is up in December. By the time Christmas Eve arrives, you are exhausted from the feeling of being guilted out by someone giving you a present, so now you have to give them a present...

When I was a child, the decorations went up the week before Christmas; usually the first day of Christmas break from school. You didn't beg for this or that, but instead helped with the festivities of baking cookies and hand making precious memories with paper, scissors, glitter, glue, and crayons, feverishly in 'hiding' so momma and daddy do not see them before it is time. Hours of practice for the children's choir at midnight mass on Christmas Eve, left our voices hoarse but our spirits high. Christmas Eve day is spent getting all the little dresses and suits and ties ready, freshly bathing, and smoothing curls. We would have a nice dinner and the anticipation would grow for going to church. We would walk down the center isle, holding little candles, singing caroles without music, up to the front of church; each of us searching for where those loving and approving eyes were located in the crowd. After church, we would drive home the 'long way' so that we could see all of the Christmas lights. We would set out the plate of cookies and say our prayers. The next morning we would wake up before dawn and pounce on our parent's bed, giggling and screaming that Santa had come! We would get to open one present and then have breakfast. After we ate, we would sit around and open the rest. The rest of the day was visiting relatives and having a huge meal all together.

Yah...that's what Christmas is to me still...in my heart at least.

My childhood remembrances of Christmas are very much the same as Deb's. And, unfortunately, I also have to agree totally with her first paragraph about how crazy and commercialized it has all become now. I am so glad to hear that the rest of the world is still continuing with the wonderful old traditions.
