Maybe just a place to land in between - there was at least 10 birds in and around the nest and many more flying around. But it was a short visit - 20 seconds maybe....

Must be siskins - the calls fit fine and the birds also look like siskins

Carduelis spinus I guess (I know their calls - and they are very similar to those on the video)
But I don´t know the calls of C. flavirostris for instance. So I am not absolutely sure...

I can agree with that, I wish it had been a bit more light there so that one could see the greenish color....

Re: White-tailed Eagle Nest Camera 2011
This is funny!!! I like the fact that someone else uses the nest if the WTE's don't!!!
But I thought it was a LSE (how do you tell them apart, actually??)

It is a buzzard - yes.
I cannot really list up any differences between the 2 species, though. It is just that I know that LSE look different, and the Common Buazzrds lokks exactly like this.
Great that the buzzards have found this nest. I hope they will stay - gonna be very interesting.

Re: White-tailed Eagle Nest Camera 2011
I looked up some differences:
- LSE is bigger
- LSE does not have a triped tail (or the stripes are hardly visible)
- LSE gives an overall brown impression (buzzard is a bit spotted)
- LSE beak is bigger (compared to the body)
aso

Re: White-tailed Eagle Nest Camera 2011
I looked in my bird books and I think there is a difference in the head shape (I did see only the back of the bird at first). Also the tail stripes are clearly seen on the Buzzard when they are almost invisible on a LSE....Ricky wrote:caysa wrote:
