Re: Happy New Year 2016
An odd thing. Taken from the Portuguese astronomic observatory:
"2015 ends today, December 31, at 11:59 pm, 59 (9) s. However, at that time the Earth will not have completed the translation in the Sun. There are two distinct definitions.
The average length of the Gregorian Year (used calendar) is 365 d 5:49:12 = 365.24250 days.
Another temporal length used is the Earth's orbital period, the average interval of time the Earth takes to complete its elliptical orbit the Sun. Its duration is 365 d 9 m 9 6:00, 8s = 365.2563630 days. There are over 20 m than the Gregorian Year or Civil.
Thus, when this night change the year still miss 20 min for the Earth to complete its orbit the Sun. So, when to celebrate the new year? At the Gregorian midnight or at orbit midnight 20 minutes later?"

Very interesting. Why not celebrate both? The glass of champaign from Gregorian midnight will probably be ready for a refill when the orbit midnight occurs.

There were fireworks in Kasmu but they weren't visible on the cam. Only some more light

We will have very little fireworks this year... We have had hardly any rain/snow for 2,5 months, so everything is totally dry - due to the high fire danger there are major restrictions re fireworks.

That's wise. But it's a pity. I love fireworks

Re: Happy New Year 2016

It feels good to read all your New Year Wishes....
but this year started very bad here:
On New Year's day Donna passed away...
Thank God her bosses were with her and as they noticed that Donna
wanted to go outside but could not get there they helped her but she could not walk so they brought her back into her own corner in the room.
She was breathing a bit fast but nothing special was
noticed. After about an hour it calmed down a bit but was not normal. Visitors came in with children to get the New Year sweeties..but Donna did not look or bark...nothing. The visitors understood the
tragedy..they are neighbours and knew Donna very well and they left at once now.
So they at once called the vet who arrived about 5 minutes later. He controlled Donna and told them
she has a heart attack: the heart could not pump the blood through her body any longer.
The gums in her mouth were almost white and even the eyes had no reaction when he controlled the pupils.
The vet could not do anything but give her an injection to prevent to feel anxious or have pain.
About ten minutes later Donna passed away, very peacefully at about 2 o' clock in the afternoon
of the 1 st January 2016, at the age of 10 years and 2 months.
A Berner Sennenhund mostly lives not much longer....

Both pictures I made in the last week of December.
Christmas I was there when H and M left for a visit. Donna was lovely, as always..Polle too!
He was there when Donna died and he seems to understand what happened...All love is for him
now, he is 14 and a half year old now. Mr. Polle..

The soldiers solved this problem simply at us. The commander's clock shows the accurate time always. So .... when the commander opens champagne. there is midnight then!!garina do mar wrote:An odd thing. Taken from the Portuguese astronomic observatory:

Re: Happy New Year 2016
Thank you Ricky!
Donna's death changes soo much for her bosses and
in my life there are also less "things to do" now.
And I'll miss the healthy meadows and good air and silence over there.
But Polle is still there...and needs food and comfort when his
bosses are not at home for longer periods.
He can go outside when they are not there but he cannot
enter his home: because of the dead and half dead birds
and mice he would bring into the rooms with him.
Years ago they found wounded mice on a bed and under
a cupboard !
And there is an enormous difference between a Berner Senn
and a cat..and even between the members of a Berner Sennenhund- family!
We will have to learn a lot. Probably there will not be an other dog
soon.
There is less time to teach a young dog all the things he has to learn at the moment:maybe in a year. And old Mr. Polle could get problems with a young puppy!
Wait and see..that is what we will have to do.
