Re: Meteorological station from Ophi
Ophy's forecast says that we should have -11 now
Not true - we have -19C. But even -19 feels like heaven
For many weeks it has been at least -25C in the morning. Now they say that we shall get warmer temps HALLELUJA!!!
Not on the plus side but maybe even warmer than -10C

if sun is coming out it will be warmer, but in nights its will colder again.

Good morning Ally!!
We are getting some snow even today and tomorrow! And it usually does not snow when it is really cold.
Not that we need more snow...... It is impossible to walk anywhere except on roads, the snow is so deep. If youhave to go off road you need

Because it sinks right into the snow , Eeven Saga is too heavy!
Animals are in trouble too, real trouble. Deer and moose are far too heavy - they sink very deep in the snow and move as little as possible now.
The labradors get tired very quickly as they also sink in, Ansa is the only one that can get around somehow, she sinks in about 15-20cm, then there is a crust that developed when we had a few days of 0C.
She is just light enough to stay on top of that layer. Foxes and rabbits manage too. But everything bigger - no.
I am soooo waiting for spring

Re: Meteorological station from Ophi
During the night from Tuesday on Wednesday it has snowed and rained..
in the morning there was a little bit of snow and the temperature -3*.
Yesterday the snow melted and fog came. Now we have + 5 * and fog...
But the barometer is pointing to better weather..a bit sun?? Please!
The work on the balcony stopped...because of the frost and now the rain..the
tiles are glued and that can not be done when they are wet...
This blue tit controlls the activities and told me everything is ok, the men are
doing their work very good! I trust this blue tit!
Ophi, now you know why we are wanting dry weather...can you please fix that,
but without frost, please!

The new floor looks nice - I am sure the blue tit is right!!
And with a little help from Ophy - it will be ok very soon.
And meanwhile - enjoy the sight of the fit young men - I would!!

Re: Meteorological station from Ophi
Caysa..a pity but the "fit young man" we also can not see! The balkony's under
mine all have got a kind of curtain..to keep the floor dry so that they can work on
there. As there are no things to fasten those plastic curtain to, it is not possible to hang here such a thing. They would have to go onto the roof,
and there is no railing...nothing. But better to wait than to be locked up
in your room behind such plastic curtains..you cannot see a thing..and not even the blue tit could come to eat...look at the pics.
I never knew how things have to be done...making new floors on a galery
and taking double tiles..and then the other dark material that has to be
glued upon the blue ones..with slides and holes to let pass the water to the drainpipes when it rains and and and so on....
Ophi, that is why we need dry weather and no frost...especially we..
the inhabitants of the top, the 6th floor...

This is the situation up til today at Helsinki Airport. Goes for us too, I think.
The blue line is this winter, the green is winter 2009-2010. The red dotted line is average snow dept.
On the left are the centimeters.

Yes this is a nice thing. But as you see from the chart above - we really REALLY don't need more snow
It will be midsummer before this all melts

This really is a lot - especially compared to the average!! But it will melt - probably even sooner than one might expect

Re: Meteorological station from Ophi
Yeah, it will melt. The snow is not so dense at all, as we have not had but maybe two very short periods when the temp was near 0C. I don't think it actually has nowed that much more than in earlier years, it just has not been compressed but weather changes.
This morning at 6 am, we have only -4C !!! It feels odd as the cold has been going on for so very long. It is very windy tho....

A picture of my brother's son when he was making his way from the road to a cottage that no one has visited during winter.... Took a while to get a path cleared
But you can get some kind of idea about the amount of snow we have.
The pic is taken on Saturday...
