garina's pic's are wonderful, but in our city one part- north tallin decised to make "no noise new year party!", there was not rockets, but just lights-show!!
if you live in bigger city- you know how afful noise these rockets make, like the war and i liked this no noise party idea very much!!!

just i like party noise without rockets war noise although old estonians thought, that noise in new year eve will scares the bad things away, and the new year starts without evil

In Portugal it is "tradition" to make a lot of noise with the caps of the pans to scare the bad things and send the old year away. I think the fireworks only have festive meanings
