Let's hope that we get to see some life in here. It will still be some time before the nesting starts....

That really is nice to see! Is it a member of the big tit's family?
Did you clean the nestbox already?
Would be very interesting to see a bird nesting there again!

We cleaned the box out in the autumn. It is hard to tell if there is anything in it now. Anyway Juha will clean it once more, I think, before nesting time starts.
This is a Great tit, Parus Major. I don't know how long it has been using the box for night shelter as we just started the camera up.

I hope that we can keep it going - something is so wrong with our internet - it comes and goes and drives me NUTS

The bluetits are working hard in the box - they are emptying it!
Really quite early for them to start nesting....

Our Great Tits have already finished nest building and are probably laying eggs these days...

Here the bluetits should starts nestbuilding at the end of this month - great tits would follow a few days later. This morning we have -10C so I really hope the birds would wait a bit longer.....

Is that an egg there?? hummm
I really can't tell...

The Flycatchers are arriving.... I have seen 2 males around.
I so wish they would keep away from the bluetit's nest. We are going to put another box up close to the cam box. Perhaps they would choose that one?? Hopefully.......

But not too close pse....give them some 10 mtrs. between the boxes.
I just have read that this is the minimum distance birds want...
But I do not believe that the person who tells, this once was a bird in a
former life.... Wink Wink

We have at least 15 birdhouses in our garden. Many of then are closer to each other than 10 meters. Birds of the same species need that distance but in this case we are talking about two different species.
I got this tip from a man that is an ornitologist. I am not at all sure that it will work but we are sure going to try. The idea is to put a lot of nesting material inside (as the flycatchers use nests with stuff in them) and then put the box up when the birds are arriving from their winter areas. This way no other birds would start building their nest in there.

Finally we got the sound working ok!!!

This morning the female blue tit stayed late in the nest. usually she is out at first dawn. I think she might have layed an egg Laughing . It is really hard to say if there are more eggs even....
you can hear that it is raining hard but if you listen carefully you might recognize some of the birds singing in the early morning. There is one sound that is quite special......

do you mean a birds-voice?
There are several tits, blue tits and the one in the box that answers
with short cheep-tones.
And the curlew, the Numenius arquate can be heard at the end...
a cock crowing and many others...

I was looking for the curlew sound - it is nice to hear that they have decided to stay around!!

The short cheep tones that sound very close is actually a male flycather!! He has been around since yesterday. The new birdhouse is up so I hope he will go there instead of invading the cam house.

Remains to see..... No females have come yet....
