I have been so very sick....
I hope none of you get this bug......
Yesterday morning while i sat here and posted about the buzzard - I suddenly felt a bit nausiated but thought I had maybe had too much coffee or something. (I just noticed the half full cup is stil here by the puter...) Maybe 10 minutes later I had to run to the toilet and that was it. I have been throwing up all day and almost all night. And within ½ an hour from the start I got the most horrible ache in all my joints and all muscles. I had fever because at one moment I was swetting like crazy and the next moment I thought I am freezing to death.
Juha brought Fanta on his way home and drank that - felt better than plain water. But even that came back up.
At some point during the evening I remembered that Timo and Saga had some sort of a tummy bug while they were in Sweden but that was not severe at all and that happend 3 days before they came home. So I called Anna to ask if they were all ok but Anna did not asnwer - Timo did. "Anna cant talk, she is so ill, laying in bed and running to the toilet"... sigh
So we just must have got it from them altho it took almost 4 days. I guess Juha is the next one..... poor fellow.

Re: I have been so very sick....
Now I finally feel better I went back to bed after posting here and woke up just 15 minutes ago And I normally never sleep during the day....
I did not even think of calling a dr yesterday - a tummy bug - that is nothing... but during the night I almost told Juha to call an ambulance hehe, altho I knew I will be ok soon. Especially as Anna had the same.
Anna has been able to be up on her feet today, thankfully, because Timo is away at some pheasant hunt but a moment ago she called Juha to come and take Saga to her skiing competition - that was too much for Anna to do - and I so do understand her.
But life is winning - how often do we really appreciate the days when we feel fine ??? At the moment I am so very HAPPY

Re: I have been so very sick....
Why is this "kiisseli" stuff not known everywhere??
I know of no English word for this simple and yet so wonderful dish.
Is potato starch something that is not used commonly?? Because that is what is needed for this....

Do you add anything else to the fruit and semolina when whipping? It looks wonderful and soothing for the tummy!

The current generation of Americans just buy easy desserts in boxes--very few cook with fresh ingredients and mix themselves. The most popular quick desserts are made by Jell-0: gelatin (just add water) and pudding (add milk and stir) or cake mixes where you just add eggs and oil. (My mother would not have approved of such laziness )
Some cooks start with the individual ingredients (we have all see Deb's wonderful cookies!) and make fancier desserts; but many take the easy way out by buying a box or visiting a bakery. Your way is much healthier

We have milk based stuff - almost like youghurts or mousse things, like Ally shows.

Rødgrød is similar to kiisseli but it is thicker and (at least to me) no so pleasant to eat.
Saftkräm in Sweden is the same as KIISSELI.
I will put together some sort of recipies and and post them in Gourmandia - this thread sounds so bad

Re: I have been so very sick....
please, what is lingoneberry?
I guess that what you are talking about is here called : watergruwel!
Made of:
pearl barly or groats, currants, raisins, a piece of cinnamon, sugar,
berryjuice and starch (made of potatoes) a piece of citronskil...aso.
I liked to eat it as a child, but I don't know how to cook it.
I just read Bessola does not exist any longer but some other people
tell it does exist...must look for it when I go shopping!
