Trip to England....
It looks likely that I am off to England with daughter Anna to mate her dog
This trip might well take a week.... Anna is calculating the right days (Lyra came into season today). Probably we have to leave by the end of next week.

Well.. hmm haha.... I have never mated a dog abroad but I have been to England to buy a dog ones (even that is a bit crazy...)
On the other hand I have never had a dog that has been as good as Lyra is. She is quite famous in Finland for her gundog skills.
Of course there are labradors in Finland too but none of them is good enough for Lyra (says Anna......). There is one good dog in Austria and another one in Hungary.... But Anna decided the best one is in England (She has seen it in action there too).
I can't say that I really look forward to this trip, the ferry parts of it makes me a bit.... nervous.. I tend to get sea sick .
But as Anna is pregnant and all... I just cannot let her go alone. I know she would do that if I say I won't go....
And I have never been in Holland

Re: Trip to England....
I think my husband is nuts to want to get a golden retriever puppy in Montana (a 23-hour drive -- no ferries though).
Who wins the crazy contest...Mr. Bisky or Anna?
At least it will be an adventure! And doesn't Jo UK live in Manchester? You could get together for tea!

Deb, take it easy sounds like you are gonna have a heart attack
Fact is that we wont have any extra time at all. It will be all about the dogs.
I have close friends in that area too, I wont even tell them we are coming - cause I wont have time to see them

It's just SO unfair. So many wonderful people from my life, gathered in one tiny area...AND I CAN'T BE THERE!

Re: Trip to England....
As you have perhaps noticed I am still here at home
Lyra (the dog) is not in heat after all - it was false alarm
So we have to wait.... and waiting in this particular case is not good. Anna's pregnancy will soon be far enough to make it impossible to travel. The ferries between NL and UK require a doc's certificate from weeks 28 - 32, after that no travelling at all....
So... now we wait and see... and ajust to what the situation will be....

Re: Trip to England....
Yeah..... but on the other hand I am not at all so sure that it would be clever for Anna to travel at all, even now.
Imagine 36 hours on a ship crossing the open sea. If Anna gets sea sick she cannot take any meds and if she is trowing up all the time.... can't be good for the baby....
I don't know - I don't feel very comfortable with the thought at all.
And funny thing - now we have strike in our harbours , only passenger ships are moving - the rest, including Finnlines that we would use, just stand still .....

Re: Trip to England....
Beeing pregnant is no illness, that's for sure!! But I think that the ship staff don't want to act as midwifes
I was actually a bit astonished when I found out that Finnlines, that sail pretty long routes, don't have a doctor on board......

Re: Trip to England....
Finally Lyra is off to meet "Scout"
As Anna now is too pregnant to be allowed on the English ferries she sent Timo on this trip
Timo is a MAN - he wanted to go alone - he needs no mother-in-laws with him.....
But I seriously wonder....... He does not really speak English, understanding the dialect right by the Welsh border is going to be tough.
Everything is arranged for him. The first night (now) he is on the big ferry between Turku and Stockholm. He is driving all day through Sweden and Denmark and spends the next night in Germany right by the border. I called and arranged the room for him so it should be ok.
Tuesday he drives through Germany and Holland into Belgium to get to Zeebrugge by 5 pm. Rotterdam would have been closer but they had no room on the ferries. I had to call and make reservations, the dog onboard requirers that. The numbers to the ferry company were a real problem. They have offices in England and France and Holland and Belgium. The numbers were all these types of numbers that you can only call from inside that country.... except the Holland nr . So that's where I called. I already had Ergees number ready, if i would have needed language help. But fortunately the guy at the other end spoke very good English and we got everything settled.
Wednesday morning Timo and Lyra should arrive in Hull. After the obligatory vet check they should have a pretty forward drive ( in left side traffic!!!) to Chestershire.
Hurray for TomTom
